Prof. Dr. Shobhalata Udapudi

Prof. Dr. Shobhalata Udapudi has superannuated from the Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), Gandhinagar on the 30 th of June 2021. In this period Prof. Udapudi has shouldered different roles and responsibilities ranging from academic to administrative Dr. Udapudi was appointed as Associate Professor of Law at the GNLU in 2007, by the then Director Prof.V.S.Mani. She was then appointed as Professor of Law in July 2012. Prior to 2007 she was faculty at KLE Society’s B. V. Bellad Law College, Belgaum and was Principal of the said college from 2005 to 2007. On the academic front, Dr. Udapudi has handled important
subjects for UG and PG, also supervised scholars for the Ph.D studies. The PG studies were commenced in the year June 2008, with only four students, all of whom had opted for IPR as their specialisation. The subjects that she taught at the UG level have been Environmental Law, Intellectual Property, Biotechnology Law, Air and Space Law, Corporate Law I and II and Infrastructure Law. The subjects she taught at the PG level include Patent Law, Trademark law, Biotechnology Law, Transfer of Technology, GI and Research Methodology. Besides teaching, Dr. Udapudi has guided the PG students with IPR specialization
dissertations. She has also been associated in different supervisory capacities for the Doctoral candidates. She has also been a resource person for many National and International Conferences, workshops, Seminars etc. which includes her being a Resource person for programmes for the IFS officers, the Judges of Bhutan, on different topics such as Biodiversity and TRIPS, CDM. She was also a member of CHARUSAT Patent Scrutiny Committee for check about the feasibility of filing patent..
Dr. Udapudi has also held some important administrative positions that have been shaped GNLU in more ways than one. From October 2007 to November 2008, she was appointed as the Director-in-Charge of the University by the Chief Justice of India-then Chief Justice Balakrishnan. She was also involved in the procedure for the first CLAT.
It was under Dr. Udapudi’s careful supervision, the 1 st GNLU International Moot Court Competition (GIMC). Dr. Udapudi was the Dean Academic Affairs and the Chief Examiner from July 2007 to May 2011. Prof. Udapudi was the Presiding Officer of ICC (Internal Complaint Committee) and drafted the regulations ‘GNLU- Harassment of Women at Work place’ in accordance with the Act Prof. Udapudi was the Director, Centre for Environmental Law, Sustainable Development and Climate Change (GCEL). As the Director of the Center, she drafted the regulations for the Gujarat Biodiversity Board (GBB) and conducted many a capacity building and awareness programmes.
She also published two Edited books “Environmental Law, Contemporary Issues” Published by EBC 2019 ISBN - 9- 789388- 822527, “Environmental Law, Decentralised environmental Governance” published by EBC 2019 ISBN-9789388221149 “Science, Technology and Law Contemporary Issues in Biotechnology”, published by Gujarat National Law University, EBC ISBN: 978-81-910389-7-2.She shouldered the responsibility of concretising a Project with the GUJARAT STATE BIOTECHNOLOGY MISSION (GSBTM). A PG DIPLOMA IN BIOTECHNOLOGY: LAW AND POLICY was introduced by GUJARAT NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY, GANDHINAGAR (GNLU) in Collaboration with (GSBTM). Madam has also been the Ph.D. Co-Ordinator from October, 2015. Prof. Udapudi has also been the Director of GNLU’s IQAC since October 2020.
