ABOUT THE LITERARY AND DEBATING CLUB
The Literary and Debating Club of Tamil Nadu National Law University was set up with a goal of helping students develop holistically, and focuses on extra-curricular aspects such as general knowledge, creative expression and oratory skills. Participating in the activities organised by the Club gives students an opportunity to take a break from their scholastic work but simultaneously use their time in a productive way and build their all-round skill set. Formally constituted in 2018, the Club was created through the restructuring of the University’s already existing student clubs, and encompasses the Poetry Club, Quiz and Discussion Club and the Debating Club. The Poetry Club creates a network through which students can share literature they find interesting with their fellow peers and also provide mutual support and assistance in improving their own individual creative talent and writing abilities by seeking feedback on their work from students who share the same passion for poetry and literature.
The Quiz and Discussion Club seeks to keep students well-versed with current affairs and enhance their knowledge on subjects outside of the legal domain. In pursuit of that goal, the club conducts regular discussion sessions that provide a platform for students to voice their opinions on contemporary issues and also enable students to enhance and diversify the knowledge pool. The Club also incentivizes students to be updated and well-read by organising frequent quizzes to test their knowledge and create a conducive and competitive atmosphere for learningeven outside of subjects pertaining to the law.
The Debating Club of the Tamil Nadu National Law University is concerned with the management of the University's Debating Club. The DC is committed to conducting regular practice debates as well as managing the teams that represent the university at various national tournaments. The DC was created for the purpose of promoting Parliamentary Debating in the University. Through the course of the year, the DC has conducted weekly Parliamentary Debating sessions, with the formats of the debates alternating between Asian and British Parliamentary Debates. The club has also been responsible for organising two editions of the intra-university debate Vivatam, as well as the premier edition of TNNLU's flagship parliamentary debate, the Tamil Nadu National Law University Inter Varsity Parliamentary Debate or TNNLU IVPD.
