Centre for Research, Development, and Training in

Cyber Laws and Cyber Security (CRDT-CLCS).                  

The Centre for Research, Development, and Training in Cyber Laws and Cyber Security (CRDT-CLCS) of TNNLU comprises a dedicated team of research assistants and volunteers guided by the faculty in charge. The Centre’s primary mission is to sensitise the public to the escalating Artificial Intelligence (AI)-influenced cybercrimes, among other cybersecurity issues in cyberspace, particularly in Tamil Nadu, and to promote awareness on cyber laws and safety.

To achieve these objectives, the Centre has conducted several national-level webinars and competitions on contemporary development and issues in cyberspace, as well as circulated pamphlets to raise awareness about the same. The Centre also conducts in-depth research on existing legal frameworks in cyber law, cybersecurity policies, emerging technologies and their legal implications, cybercrime legislation, and enforcement. The Centre actively organises various campus events for the TNNLU students. Recently, the centre had organised its Cyber Fest, Databytes '23, which received enthusiastic participation from the student community.

In the past years, the centre had successfully undertaken the following activities, including:

  • Conducted a National Webinar on the topic, ‘Cybercrimes against women and children- legal response’ and the resource person was Dr. Nagarathna, Associate Professor of Law, National Law School of India University, Bangalore.
  • Conducted a National Webinar on the topic, ‘Legal dimensions of cybercrimes in cyberspace, with a focus on vulnerable victims’ and the resource person was Dr. Ashok P. Wadje, Associate Professor of Law and Associate Dean in Maharashtra National Law University, Aurangabad.
  • Conducted a National Webinar on the topic, ‘Online gaming: security, privacy and predator risks’ and the resource person was Dr. Ranjit Oomen Abraham, Registrar i/c & HoD i/c, Department of Cyber Space Law & Justice, Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai.
  • Organised a National Essay writing competition on the theme, ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cyber laws in India.’
  • Published the newsletter ‘Data Monitor’ covering major developments and events in cyberspace.
  • Organised and conducted the event ‘Databytes’ 23 - The Cyber Fest’ from August 30th to 31st, 2023, hosting multiple intra-university competitions.

These initiatives aim to provide a platform for intellectual discourse, knowledge sharing, and skill development in the dynamic realm of cyber laws and cyber security. CRDT-CLCS remains committed to fostering awareness about cyber security and cyber laws, and contributing to the advancement of legal scholarship in this domain.
