The Center for Post Graduate Legal Studies was established in 2018. It offers the One Year LLM Degree programmes from 2018-2019 academic year onwards. At present, the CPGLS offers the following: One Year LL.M. (Corporate and Securities Laws) Programme (Code: LLM01)  One Year LL.M. (Intellectual Property Laws) Programme (Code: LLM02)  One Year LL.M. (Natural Resources Law) Programme (Code: LLM03) These programmes are offered under the UGC Guidelines for One Year LLM Degree Programme, 2012 following the semester pattern. As per TNNLU LLM Regulations, 2017 students shall study three compulsory courses along with 4 programme specific courses and 2 elective courses. Curricula for these programmes are designed to deliver advance knowledge, critical thinking and enquiry suitable for candidates with interest in varied career paths such as the academia, research, roles in regulatory bodies, policy think tanks, and tribunals, joining the Bar, transactional lawyering etc. In order to get the LLM with specific specialisation, a student must complete the compulsory courses, Page 17 of 20 the dissertation and a minimum of four courses from the relevant LLM programme. Further, one may choose the remaining two elective courses from courses offered in any of the LLM programmes.

Post-Graduate Programmes at the Center for Post-Graduate Legal Studies (CPGLS):

  1. In order to seek admission to any of these programmes it is mandatory to have a pass in 3 years /5 years B.L. or LL.B. or B.L. (Hons.) or LL.B. (Hons.) or its equivalent B.A.LL.B. (Hons.)/B.Com.

LL.B.(Hons.) Degree or an equivalent examination with not less than

 

    1. fifty five percent (55%) marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to unreserved/OBC/Specially Abled Persons (SAP) and other categories
    2. fifty percent (50%) marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST categories

 

  1. Candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination in April/May, 2023 are also eligible to appear in CLAT 2023. However, they shall be required to produce evidence of their passing the qualifying examination at the time of admission, failing which they will lose their right to be considered for admission.
 
  1. The result of the qualifying examination in point number 1 above should be submitted by the candidate on or before the last date of closure of admission failing which the candidate may be ineligible for admission to the programme.

Seats Distribution (Maximum intake: 60^)

Admissions to these programmes are on merit, subject to rules of reservation, through the Common Law Admission Test only.

Note:

  1. A minimum intake of 5 candidates is required for offering that particular LL.M. programme in a given academic year.
  2. Unfilled seats, if any, in any of the U.G. or P.G. programmes after CLAT provisional lists of allotment and counseling process will be filled through admission against vacant seats based only on CLAT rank in the order of merit. A separate notification will be issued on the university website for that purpose only if vacancies arise after the CLAT counseling process. Allotment of LLM programmes is on choice cum merit and subject to availability of seats in respective categories and preference shall be given to candidates who joined through CLAT counseling process only.
  3. TNNLU Seat Conversion Policy may be applied in case of vacant seats
 
  1. Reservation and distribution of seats as mentioned above are subject to change from time to time as per the orders of the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Fees Waiver and Scholarships

TNNLU Financial Assistance Scheme offers full or partial waiver of fees and/or charges for the entire or part of the programme of study on the basis of the financial abilities of a student’s family. All the SC and ST students from Tamil Nadu are exempted from the payment of tuition fees throughout the duration of the programme as the same is borne by the Government of Tamil Nadu. Eligible students are encouraged to apply for these and other scholarships provided by the Union of India and their respective states.
