MOOT COURT COMMITTEE (MCC)

ABOUT US:

The Moot Court Committee (MCC) is an integral part of our institution's commitment to providing a well-rounded legal education. The Moot Court Committee of TNNLU strives to achieve this by imparting high levels of excellence in developing the mooting culture in the University. It also works conscientiously in enhancing the stature of the University in the fiercely contested moots of both national and international level.

The MCC has a team of 25 dedicated members from various batches who carry out various functions such as organizing workshops, conducting moot court competitions, providing guidance & training, facilitating network and exposure, and taking important policy decisions to promote the mooting standards of the University.

The MCC presently aims to bring TNNLU to the forefront of mooting and successfully hosts the NHRC-TNNLU National Moot Court Competition and the CCI-TNNLU National Moot Court Competition. The MCC also conducts the Freshers' Intra-University Moot Court Competition to prepare and hone mooting skills to the First years. Further, the MCC conducts the Freshers' Moot Boot Camp for 3 days introducing the Mooting Culture to the First Years.

FLAGSHIP COMPETITIONS:

      The TNNLU-CCI National Moot Court Competition is an annual NMCC conducted by TNNLU. In 2018, MCC collaborated with CCI for the first time to organize the 1st TNNLU-CCI National Moot Court Competition from 2nd to 4th February 2018, and since then the 2nd edition of the TNNLU-CCI National Moot Court Competition (6th to 8th of March 2019) and the 3rd TNNLU-CCI National Moot Court Competition (6th to 8th of March 2020) were organized. In 2021 the 4th TNNLU-CCI National Moot Court Competition (28th to 30th of May 2021) and in 2023 the 5th TNNLU-CCI National Moot Court Competition (13th to 14th of May 2023) took place in a virtual setting. All five editions saw great participation of law students from all over India. This 3 day event witnesses participation from Universities throughout the Nation. The theme of the Proposition is based on Competition Law. The 6th Edition of the TNNLU-CCI Moot for the year of 2024 (22nd to 24th of March 2024) was a grand success with great participation from law schools all over the country.
 

ACHIEVEMENTS IN MOOT COURT COMPETITIONS:

2023-24:

  1. Prathyusha Prasad (BC0210030), Nivedita Raman (BA0210031), and, Medha Hebbar (BC0210021) won the 8th National Moot Court Competition organized by Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad. They also received the award for Best Memorial.
  2. Oviya Shree S, Nishitha Jha and, Yohasri from 2nd year have been adjudicated as runners-up in the 5th Gurjeet Singh Memorial National Moot Court Competition conducted by NLUJA Assam.
  3. The team comprising of Mohammed Rayyan (BA0200026), Deepta Ramakrishnan (BA0200010) and Smitha GS (BC0200043) finished as the Semi-Finalists of the Gujarat National Law University’s International Moot Court Competition on International Trade Law.
  4. Team consisting of Navin Balaji Annamalai (BA0220035), Shreya P (BA0220048) and Vignesh J.M (BA220058) have secured the position of Octa Finalists and Best Memorial for Respondents in the 1st NHRC-MNLUA national moot court competition held from February 9-11 2024.
  5. The team comprising S. Suriyakala and Reshma Shajani from 3rd year B.A. LL.B.(Hons.) emerged as Semi-finalists and won the Best Memorial at the 5th Surana & Surana and Army Institute of Law National Family Law Moot Court Competition, 2024, that was held virtually from March 15-17, 2024.
  6.  XXVII All India Moot Court Competition by University Law College, Bangalore University.The team, Surekha Naresh (BA0210050) and Mathew Sunny have successfully made it to the semi-final round of the competition, conducted from 9th June 2023 to 11th June 2023.
  7. team consisting of Abinaya, Arivusudar, Preethi Manasa who participated in 6th Surana and Surana, school of law, Raffles university Labour Moot court competition bagged 1st prize and won the competition in the Finals conducted today, we also bagged the 1st best memorial, Abinaya from 3rd year B.com.,LL.B (Hon) bagged the best student advocate in Finals.
  8. The team consisting of Anish Mishra, Thanuja Anthiyur Aravindan, and Shubham Kumar Dass were declared as the Semi Finalists of the VI Surana and Surana and UPES School of Law, National Insolvency Law Moot Court Competition, 2023.
  9. Medha Hebbar (BC0210021) Prathyusha Prasad (BC0210030)Nivedita Raman (BA0210031) emerged as Semi-Finalists in the 2nd edition of the Shri NJ Yasaswy National Moot Court Competition, organized by the ICFAI Law School, Jaipur.
  10. A team consisting of Anushka Bhatt, Aseem Agarwal and Mohammed Rayyan, participated in the 17th SOEL Pro Bono Enviro National Moot Court Competition  were semi-finalists in the above competition and also won the 2nd best memorial award.
  11. Varshaa Maharaja, Sneha Dharshini and Sarumathi V have been adjudged as the Quarterfinalist in the VII Surana & Surana and UPES School of Lae, National Insolvency Law Moot Court Competition 2024. They also won the Best Memorial Respondents and the Overall Second Best Memorial.
  12. Navin Balaji Annamalai has secured Best Orator in preliminary rounds in the 8th GNLU Moot Court Competition.
  13. R Shaline and Suriyakala S have been declared as the Winners of the 18th Pro Bono Enviro National Moot Court Competition, 2024. R Shaline was declared as the Best Speaker in the Final Rounds.
  14. Khushi Soni, Khushboo and Shreya Parvathinathan were declared as the Winners of the 12th RCL National Moot Court Competition, 2024.
  15. Aditi Nemakal, Kaushalya J S, Meghaa Ganesan, Srinidhi R of Batch of 2024, 5th Place (Memorial Rounds), Herbert Smith Freehills Competition Law Moot, 2023.
  16. Abinaya S, R Preethi Manasa, Arivusudar A, Winners, Best Memorial, Best Speaker in the 6th Surana and Surana and School of Law organised by Raffles University National Labour Law Moot Court Competition, 2023-24.

  1. Anushka Bhatt, Mohammed Rayyan and Parthasarathy P of Batch of 2025, Semi finalists, AIL Checkmate National Moot Court Competition organised by Army Institute of Law. Parthasarathy P has been awarded the Best Speaker.
  2. JS Kaushalya, Meghaa G, Srinidhi R of Batch of 2024, Winners, 12th K.R. Ramamani Memorial National Taxation Moot Court Competition 2022 organised by SOEL Campus, Chennai. JS Kaushalya, has been awarded the  Best Speaker.
  3. Dheekshanya A and Andrea Prince of Batch of 2026, ‘Best Memorial’ and Semi-Finalists, SRM 8th Annual Moot Court Competition, 2023 organised by SRM School of Law.
  4. Ayush Shukla, Sonali Priyadarsani and Swati Pragyan Sahoo of Batch of 2024, 2nd Best Memorial in the 19th K.K. Luthra Memorial Moot Court Competition, 2023 organised by Campus Law Centre, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi.
  5. Lakshmisusheela, Abinaya S and Dheekshanya A, Ranked 3rd overall and awarded 2nd Best memorial in the 4th Surana & Surana and Ramaiah College of Law National Tort Law Moot Competition & Judgment Writing Competition, 2022

  9. Krishna J., Shachi Srivastava and Manimozhi B, Winners, 10th RMNLU -SCC Online International Media Law Moot Court Competition organised by RMLNLU, Lucknow.
  10. Rajetha Shuklaa. Deepta R. Vagisha Tiwari of Batch of 2025, Runners Up, NLUO -PHFI Public Health Law National Moot Court Competition, 2022, organised by NLUO, Cuttack. 

 

OUR TEAM:

The Moot Court Committee is a committee under the Student Activities Forum (SAF) of the University, we are a student-run body and we select members for every academic year by calling for applications, followed by an Interview with the Faculty-In-Charge and the outgoing Convenor of the Committee.  We also consider the volunteers who help us in organizing all the events as a part of our team.  Our Members are working tirelessly across various sub-committees, which includes allotment, reimbursement, social-media, follow-up, bonafide etc., for the efficient functioning of the Committee.
