Overview:

The Centre for Business and Human Rights (CBHR) at Tamil Nadu National Law University (TNNLU), in collaboration with P/ PRABHAVEE – Partner for Social Impact and Sustaim Consulting, is pleased to announce the launch of a collaborative research initiative: “Local Economies, Global Values: MSMEs Driving Gender Equity in South India”

This collaborative research initiative aims to explore how Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) can promote gender equity and responsible business practices in South India. The session will be joined by leaders from government, trade unions, academia, business, finance, and other key stakeholders, who will set the stage for dialogue on responsible business practices and the advancement of rights-based, gender-responsive, and sustainable enterprise development in India.

The Centre for Business and Human Rights (CBHR) at TNNLU was set up in 2022 with assistance from the Government of Tamil Nadu. The Centre's main aim is to get a better understanding of and to help the relationship between business practices and human rights in India. The CBHR is aware that business activities can both improve and harm human welfare, so it conducts interdisciplinary research, holds dialogues with stakeholders, and participates in policy initiatives that directly address the human rights consequences of business practices. The Centre's agenda prioritises labour rights, gender equality, consumer protection, and environmental responsibility, and it envisions providing reforms that will make human rights an integral part of economic growth.
