Extension of Last Date for Submission of Applications and Relaxation of Eligibility Criteria - Certificate Course on Advanced Courtroom and Advocacy Skills

Based on numerous requests received, we are hereby relaxing the eligibility criteria and extending the last date for applications from young advocates for the Certificate Course on Advanced Courtroom and Advocacy Skills under Project Eyalvathu Karavel.

1. EXTENSION OF LAST DATE

The last date for submission of applications has been extended to 21 September 2026.

2. RELAXATION OF ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

The eligibility criteria have also been revised as follows:

Applicants must:

• Hold a 3-year or 5-year LL.B. degree with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent CGPA from a recognised University in India;
• Be enrolled with the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on or after 2022;
• Possess 0–4 years of professional experience; and
• Candidates whose enrollment with the Bar Council is provisionally submitted and is awaiting completion may also apply.

3. HOW TO APPLY

Interested candidates are required to submit their applications through the prescribed online application form on or before 21 September 2026.

Applicants shall upload all the required documents along with the application, including:

• Proof of enrollment / provisional enrollment;
• Proof of residence;
• Statement of Purpose (SOP); and
• Proof of payment of the application fee.

No course fee shall be charged for participation in or certification under the programme.

4. ABOUT THE CERTIFICATE COURSE

The Certificate Course on Advanced Courtroom and Advocacy Skills is a one-year, workshop-based, hands-on training programme aimed at strengthening the practical skills and professional capacities of young advocates.

The programme will comprise:

• 12 monthly workshops;
• Two days per workshop;
• Conducted on weekends only;
• Offline mode; and
• Scheduled between October 2026 and October 2027.

The course will include interactive workshops, simulation exercises, case-based discussions and experiential learning activities, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of legal practice and emerging areas of law.

Between workshops, participants will be required to undertake practical assignments and case-based tasks designed to facilitate the application of their learning to real-world legal issues. Participants will also be encouraged to undertake pro bono matters concerning relevant legal and social issues, with structured mentorship and guidance from experienced legal practitioners, academicians and subject-matter experts.

5. COMMUNITY-BASED LEGAL ENGAGEMENT

A key component of the programme will be community-based legal engagement. Participants will collaborate with local civil society organisations to proactively identify and source cases, conduct legal awareness programmes and contribute to initiatives aimed at promoting access to justice and addressing the legal needs of local communities.

6. CERTIFICATION

Certification under the Certificate Course on Advanced Courtroom and Advocacy Skills shall be based on the participant’s active participation and satisfactory performance throughout the programme.

The assessment for certification shall take into consideration, inter alia:

• Participation in workshops;
• Academic engagement;
• Performance in practical and simulation-based exercises;
• Involvement in pro bono matters; and
• Meaningful contribution to community-based legal initiatives.
