About The Event

The STAP (Suthanthira Thirunaal Amudhu Peruvizha) Sociology Panel Discussion began with a formal introduction by Prof. Dr Hemalatha Bhat to the event. Ms. Kavya, the recording secretary, introduced the two speakers and briefed through the session. The Panel Discussion was initiated by the first speaker of the event Ms. Meghaleena Mukherji from 1st Year BA LLB, who introduced the works of Brenda Beck and her important observations made in Konku Region of Tamil Nadu. She made us aware about how Brenda beck’s work advanced sociology in Tamil Nadu. Next She introduced Louis Dumont and his study of Paramalai Kallar and how he defined and explained their various aspects. She looked into the specifics of his research and work on Kallars.

The discussion was continued by the second speaker, Mr. Aditya Chatterjee from 1st Year BA LLB who talked about Louis Dumont’s broad research and methodology. After this, the second speaker discussed about Robert Hardgrave and his study on Nadars of Tamil Nadu and how this caste transformed from a lowest level to one of the economically and politically successful community as time progressed.

Prof. Dr Hemalatha Bhat concluded the discussion with her notable insights with the audience.

The Audience Interaction and questioning was a wonderful opportunity to learn a lot of the lesser-known facts which was nothing short but remarkable.
