The STAP (Suthanthira Thirunaal Amudhu Peruvizha) Sociology Panel Discussion began with a formal introduction by Prof. Dr Hemalatha Bhat to the event. The event comprised of around 25 participants. Ms. Thanishka, the recording secretary, introduced the two speakers and briefed through the session. The Panel Discussion was initiated by the first speaker of the event Ms. Andrea Prince from 1st Year BA LLB introduced the major timeline of events in M.N Srinivas’s life, who was not only acknowledged as the father of modern sociology but was also known for his fieldwork in Rampura.
M.N. Srinivas was a prominent sociologist who believed in ethnography and developed concepts such as the dominant class, Westernization, Sanskritization, principals of pollution so on and so forth. He also observes the characteristics to caste and their functions.
Ms. Kritika Gupta (1st Year BA LLB) followed the discussion with relationship between caste and their occupations, the features of the dominant caste, the social mobility structure present during the period before and after the British rule. She gave a lot of insights into the different dominant castes across India as well.
Prof. Dr Hemalatha Bhat concluded the discussion with her notable insights with the audience. The Audience Interaction and questioning was a wonderful opportunity to learn a lot of the lesser-known facts which was nothing short but remarkable.
Ms. Thanishka, the recording secretary then concluded the event with her conclusion, thereby proposing the vote of thanks to sign off this successful 3rd edition of the STAP Sociology Panel Discussion.
